The O Of Go
Some of the anti-Blair imagery produced by the Stop the War Coalition can churn your stomach. The whole idea of stock images laced together with a bit of American Stadium Rock is presumably intended to both inspire and appall the viewer.
Truly appalling are the images from the Lebanon war from last month, which are not something I link to gratuitiously. So I would warn you, before you click on the links, that photos and images found here, here and here are very upsetting indeed.
On their own those photographs may not be perceived as anti-Blair imagery to you or I. But pictures of dead babies in bombed houses may be partly why Palestinians are appalled at the prospect of Tony Blair’s weekend visit to Israel. They could be why Blair is now, credibility-wise, a dead man walking.
Some of the iconography adopted by the Stop the War Coalition can also be incredibly effective. The letter o in the “Time To GO” legend, for example, uses blood spattered typography to drive home the point without resorting to the gut wrench of photographs from Lebanon. Unfortunately, you’ll have to look at those photos from Lebanon if you disagree with me.
